First Day of School 2011

Thursday, September 8, 2011
School started a little later this year than normal due to construction on an elementary school in our district. But we were happy to have the extra days and feeling contentedly ready to go back.

J.B. is in 6th grade this year. He takes a bus to school.

Logan is in 8th grade this year. He rides his bike/mostly gets driven by his nice parents to school.

Soren is in 3rd grade this year. He walks/rides bike with parents on good weather days.

Lachlan is 4 and started at the first commercial preschool our family has ever taken part in. He's cool and excited.

Janessa is a senior this year. She drives herself. Boo-yah!

Weight Loss

On Mother's Day I achieved my goal I started in October of 65 pounds of weight loss!

Here I am, showing what 65 pounds of weight loss measures in a pair of pants.

This is what I used to look like last September in these exact same pants.

Now I have enough room in them for me and Lachlan.

Now I'm wearing 6's. And I'm extremely happy! It has been a very long, very hard struggle for me! I'm happy I finally found something that works!

Art In Bloom at the MFA

On Saturday April 30th, I took the 3 youngest to visit the Art in Bloom at the MFA. Really, I just wanted to take J.B. because he loves art and he and I enjoy going. Soren and Lachlan really cramp my style when it comes to art museums--"This is boring; when can we leave?" lots of whining and carrying on.

But I bribed them with a doughnut reward if they should behave. Plus J.B. made them these awesome worksheets so that they had things to look for along the way in the museum.

We stopped at the beginning of the flowers to see a few pieces in the glassblower--Chihuly Exhibit, which we'll go back and see in its entirety later.

Saw Chihuly in AZ and LOVED it. This is made of glass.

Here is what w really came for. Floral arrangements, representing specific artworks. This one represents the Virgin Mary and child sculpture to the left, in the back. Click on the picture to see it bigger.

Make Way For Swans

May 3 was a beautiful day for an outing in Boston. The Wilsons took the train in with us and we met about 50 of our friends from church for the annual celebration of "Returning the Swans to the Public Gardens. We were all a little "high" on Spring. We'd suffered a long winter and this day was perfect--not too hot, not too cold, all of the trees in bloom. It was absolutely lovely.

During the winter the swans live at the zoo. Every year in May there is a parade and celebration as the swans are led back through the Public Gardens into their pond.

The swans cages were festooned with flower garlands and big white satin bows. These swans traveled in style.

Romeo and Juliet are waiting patiently to be led on the parade and allowed back into the Public Garden pond. Both swans are actually females.

Here is the band that is leading the duckling parade.

We wait on the banks of the pond for the Swans to be released. They're handing out free lemonade, free ice cream, free seeds, and free soap samples.

While lunching two radio stations interviewed me, Lachlan and some of our friends. I listened for the story on WBUR (NPR) and WBZ, but I don't think either Lachlan or I made it on air. Our friend, Jamie Cook did though! She was on WBUR! Good job newscaster Jamie!
